1917 Cadillac Model 55 Phaeton
This car has an almost unbelievable story to tell. It was purchased new in Cayuga, Ontario and that owner kept the car until 1951, sold it almost next door to a family in Caledonia, Ontario, and that family had the car until I acquired it. We have all the names and a build sheet from Cadillac. It has its original owners manual in the LF door, the original Cadillac script jack, its roll up tool kit, the hubcap wrench, wheel wrench and crank are still with the car. It has just over 20,000 actual miles. It was stored away in a container in 1959. It has had one paint job and the roof replaced in its 100 year lifetime. The old V8 started right up. The car has its original dual exhaust system and the original selling dealer's (Hyslop Bros. Toronto) dealer tag still on the car. We have local Mennonites replace the leather in the two bottom seat cushions, perfectly matching the original leather seat backs which are in remarkable original condition. Besides all this local history, these Cadillacs have their own war time story to tell as they were the favourite car of all the allies. WWI was basically being fought with horses and mules, and they wanted reconnaissance vehicles, ambulances, and staff cars. After testing all the vehicles makes of this period, Cadillac was their outstanding choice.
